Downey is one of the Gateway Cities in Los Angeles County, and it holds the distinction of being the home of the Apollo Space Program. Downey also has the oldest still operating McDonald’s restaurant on the planet. It was actually named one of the most endangered historic places by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
